Why Do You Need Regular Eye Exams?

Routine eye exams are the secret ingredient to overall visual health.

Eye diseases are tricky and may appear without warning. Sometimes, symptoms only appear in more advanced stages.

Early detection and intervention are key to preventing eye conditions from developing into long-term vision problems. Our team strives to uncover eye diseases in their earliest stages using diagnostic technologies.

In every eye exam, our optometrists screen for the following conditions:

How Often Should You Have an Eye Exam?

We suggest our adult patients have an eye exam every 12-18 months, which is the eye exam frequency recommended by the Canadian Optometric Association.

Children should have an eye exam every year. Our optometrists are experienced providers who know how to make a child’s eye exam comfortable and exciting.

Patients with preexisting visual conditions or health concerns may have a different exam frequency recommended by their eye doctor.

What Happens During an Eye Exam?

Every eye exam follows a general flow from the initial consultation to eye disease screenings, the sight exam, and our care recommendations. This may include professional frame fitting, a contact lens fitting, dry eye therapy, or more.

During the exam, you’ll have time to ask questions regarding any eye or vision concerns you have. We’re also happy to explain the different tests and assessments if you’d like to learn more.

Every exam begins with a conversation about your life, eyesight, and overall health. We’ll ask questions about your family’s health history and the history of your overall vision health.

If you have concerns or questions about your vision and eye health, the initial conversation is an excellent opportunity to discuss them with your optometrist! The more details you provide, the more we can customize the exam to address your needs.

Searching for signs of eye disease is an essential step in your eye exam. Our team uses modern technologies and diagnostic tools to search for subtle symptoms of eye disease.

If we discover a developing condition, we’ll work closely with you to manage and preserve your vision with a customized visual care plan.

Your optometrist tests visual acuity to determine the sharpness of your vision. We’ll use a mix of testing methods, including eye care technologies, to determine the clarity of your vision and decide if contact lenses or glasses are an option to help improve your eyesight.

At the end of your exam, we’ll explain our findings and recommendations to help manage your eyesight and visual health.
